I Love listening to Bob Dylan and Steve Jobs is one of my heroes, says Prithviraj Chavan

April 17th, 2012 by

The Chief Minister for the Indian state spells one word: Contradiction. Not in a negative way but contradiction in an almost surreal sort of way. Picture this, this is a man who started of his formal education at a municipal school in New Delhi. From such humble beginnings he capped off his formal education at one of the worlds best universities- Berkeley College (the University of California) with an engineering degree. Though he has an oriental extraction the Chief Minister is well at home listening to Bod Dylan and reading rationalists of  Western philosophy such as Rene Descartes.

Prithviraj Chavan is the man of the hour. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra has had a storied political career. He has held over five cabinet portfolios in the last decade, he has also been a Congress General  Secretary, and lastly he  has crowned this off with a stint as the Chief Minister for the Maharashtra region. The member of Sonia Gandhi’s political party (the Indian National Congress Party) occupies  a tough political office – the Governor of the region wield more power than the PM as he boasts of executive power. Prithviraj Chavan is due for reelection this year and the verdict of the populace will be a referendum of sorts on his performance.

At the personal level, the aeronautical engineer who counts among his heroes Steve Jobs, is a laid back individual. This is best amplified by the low profile he has adopted since taking the Chief Ministers post just over a year ago. This should not be mistaken to mean that the Minister is a pushover, nay. The testament to this can be seen best by how he has faced down the persistent insistence that he is a mere stop gap who is bound to be recalled back to the office of the Prime Minister in New Delhi.
